Beginning Sept. 7, masks required in schools, on buses
Posted on 08/31/2021

On August 31, Acting Secretary of Health Alison Beam announced a mask mandate for all schools and pre-schools in the Commonwealth, both public and private.  Effective September 7, 2021 masks will be required for all Quakertown Community School District students, staff, and visitors to our schools and those traveling on buses.

The QCSD Health and Safety Plan, Section 3a states “masks are optional for all that choose to wear them while on Quakertown Community School District property or participating in district-sponsored events, except as required by law or regulation.”  I have consulted with School Board leadership, and confirmed their understanding that I have the authority to implement this mandate as directed by the Department of Health.  The Board is aware of and supports this decision at this time. In addition, our Solicitor said we must comply with the order.

Therefore, to be clear, effective September 7, 2021, masks will be required indoors for all students, staff and visitors to all Quakertown schoolsMasks will also be required on school buses. All other portions of the Health and Safety Plan remain in effect.  I anticipate the School Board will discuss this further at their next regularly scheduled meeting on September 9.
