The delivery of special education services is the decision of the student's IEP team, which includes a regular educator, a special educator, an administrator, and the parent. Mature students may also be included in the team's discussion.
The district maintains a full continuum of placement options. That is, the district supports students who are "fully included," as well as students who need support outside of the regular classroom through resource rooms or full-time classes. Other services, such as speech and language therapy, are provided by itinerant teachers who teach within the regular classroom or pull the student from the regular classroom.
The district bears the responsibility of educating students in the regular curriculum and with non-disabled peers whenever appropriate.
A few students have such significant disabilities that they need to attend approved private schools.
The Bucks County Intermediate Unit is the district's partner in providing these specialized services.
The following support programs operate within the district:
- Learning support
- Emotional support
- Life skills support
- Speech and language support
- Autistic support
- Multidisabilities support
- Physical support
- Blindness and visual impairment support
- Deafness and hearing impairment support
Some students attend special classes operated by the Bucks County IU in neighboring districts or at the Upper Bucks Area Vocational-Technical School.
Some students with significant disabilities are eligible for Extended School Year (ESY) services. The IEP team must determine that a break in service would significantly thwart the progress toward independence for such a student.
