Board President Letter to Neidig Community

January 12, 2018

Dear Neidig Elementary School Neighbors,

The Quakertown Community School Board would like to make you aware that it is moving forward with plans to renovate and add an addition to Neidig Elementary School, located at 201 N. Penrose St. The property sits in both Quakertown Borough and Richland Township, and we would like to make you aware of the work and give you the opportunity to voice any ideas or concerns that you may have.

Construction at Neidig was recommended last month by the Elementary Reassignment Committee and falls in line with the 2016 Facilities Study, which cites the Neidig upgrades as a key step toward investing in repairs and improvements of district facilities. That's a commitment shared by the Board and Administration after years of neglect to its buildings. At the same meeting, the School Board approved the community committee's recommendation.

Here is the potential timeline for the work: The design process land development approvals are expected to take one year; Bidding on the jobs January-March 2019; Construction March 2019 to December 2020. Classrooms would be available for Neidig Elementary School students for the spring semester of 2021, with redistricting taking place in the fall of 2021.

Lots of information about the process can be found on the District website @ Click on "School Board" and then on "Board Docs." Should you ever want to comment on the District's plans, Board Members would like to hear what you have to say. The Facilities Committee routinely meets at 6:00 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month in the District Services Center. The full Board meets the second and fourth Thursdays each month at 7 p.m. You may also email all board members at [email protected].

Steaven Klein,
