Baking and Pastry Arts student Megan Jackson has been recognized by the Joint Operating Committee as student of the month for January, 2019, at the Upper Bucks County Technical School.
The JOC is made up of representatives of the Quakertown Community, Palisades and Pennridge school districts and the UBCTS administration. Quakertown Superintendent Dr. Bill Harner is the Superintendent of Record for the UBCTS. "We are very proud of Megan's many accomplishments," Dr. Harner said."She has proven to be an exceptional student, and has shown outstanding leadership skills."
Prior to enrolling at Quakertown Community High School as a ninth grader, Megan was a student at Salem Christian School. In eighth grade she chose to attend Quakertown for the opportunity to be in the UBCTS program, as she enjoyed baking at home and wanted to learn more about the art of baking.
Megan has done exceptionally well during her four years at UBCTS, earning First honors every year. She is a member of the National Honor Society at QCHS, a member of the National Technical Honor Society at UBCTS, and president of SkillsUSA.
Megan competed in cake decorating at Districts last year and gave up the opportunity this year to let another student have the experience. Chef Penn identified her as a true leader in the class. She has awarded Megan with the Outstanding Student of the Year for her level every year. She is someone Chef can count on to fill in and do anything she needs. Megan has earned the respect of her peers and jumps in to help them when needed.
The items that she finds the greatest joy in baking are the bread products, especially bagels, rolls and pizza dough. In Megan's spare time she keeps busy as a member of Quakertown's indoor drumline. She plays 12 different instruments (auxiliary percussion) and was also a member of the Panther Marching Band. She currently works at Red Robin as a line-cook when she can fit it in with her drumline schedule.
She is a group leader for the International Exchange Student organization. Megan has not solidified her post graduate plans because she is still waiting to hear back from all of the college applications she sent in. She does know she wants to attain a bachelor degree in English and Literature. She has been officially accepted to Albright, Lebanon Valley, Lycoming and Arcadia.
