Assessment

The term assessment means many different things and differs depending on the context.

For example, in our classrooms teachers may reference formative assessment (assessment FOR learning) and they may reference summative assessment (assessment OF learning).  Educators often refer to common assessments (assessments that are common to a course or grade level) and benchmark assessments (assessments that are used to establish where a student is in regards to standards or learning objectives.

Beyond these types of classroom assessments, there are state and national exams such as the PSSA, Keystone Exams, NOCTI, SAT, and ACT as example.
