Department Overview
The K-12 library program in the Quakertown Community School District addresses the needs of the 21st Century learner. In our Elementary schools, Library is part of the four-day "Specials" rotation meaning that students will visit the library for instruction once every four days. Elementary students are exposed to a wide variety of literature, learn how to work collaboratively, and begin their understanding of information fluency by learning to locate, access, and evaluate information in both print and electronic formats.
At the middle level, students delve more deeply into communication skills by learning to interpret, evaluate, communicate, and work collaboratively to produce innovative products using digital media. They explore the use of technology to creatively innovate and problem-solve, and incorporate these skills into their learning in all content areas.
Through the high school library, students broaden their access to literature and continue to build their information understanding by practicing the responsible, legal, and ethical use of information. They learn to use technology to access information, analyze and synthesize during the research process, and burgeon into digitally literate, lifelong learners.
